To mark World Water Day, Greenpeace activists, volunteers and the general public place posters in Bangkok as part of the ongoing “Detox” campaign calling on the fashion industry to eliminate hazardous chemicals from their supply chains.
The posters, covered with a special non-toxic ink, when washed reveal the fashion industry’s ‘Dirty Little Secret.’ The textile industry is the third largest source of industrial wastewater in China where as much as 70 percent of rivers, lakes and reservoirs are polluted. But as Greenpeace latest reveals, this pollution is not limited to the countries where heavy industry is located, but is happening in any country where the clothing is sold and washed. The posters were also put up in shopping centres, by rivers and in other locations in cities including Amsterdam, Stockholm, Jakarta, Madrid.
