Following the ecological disaster occurred in the Kamchatka peninsula, Greenpeace Russia experts investigate in the Nalycheva river basin, where they found suspicious tracks and took samples of water and silt.
They took samples based on the evidence gathered from local residents who in particular pointed to a creek that passes the burial ground for poisonous materials and flows into the Nalycheva river. The researchers also found a thin layer on the ocean surface, close to the Nalycheva river mouth, where they took samples of oily silt and yellow foam. The area was explored by specialists of the Kamchatka Research Institute for Fisheries and Oceanology (KamchatNIRO).
Greenpeace experts examined the area and the river to clarify the information and to determine whether the discovered traces could be considered an evidence of pollution of the Pacific Ocean coastal waters and the cause of the mass death of marine animals off the coast of Kamchatka. It will be possible to accurately confirm or deny this information only after laboratory analysis of water and bottom sediment samples.
