Greenpeace Poland activists climbed up over a 100 meters tall tower at the Ostroleka C construction site. Activists put on the tower a huge banner with caption: "Coal, gas, climate crisis".
This way Greenpeace protests against further investments in fossil fuels in Poland. Ostroleka C was supposed to be the last new coal plant in Poland. Despite protests of environmental groups and warnings of economic & market experts regarding the absurdity of the project, the plant was put into construction. After spending 1 billion PLN on the construction, state controlled utilities involved in the project pulled the plug on the coal investment. However instead of ending the project altogether and turning into renewables utilities decided to change the fuel from coal to fossil gas. Greenpeace Poland warns that replacing coal with gas is replacing addiction to one fossil fuel with another and will continue to fuel the climate crisis. In order to avoid the climate catastrophe, Polish government needs to turn into clean energy solutions and phase out all fossil fuels as soon as possible.
