Documenting Forests in the area of Oregon covering Siskiyou National Forest, Rogue River, acts of logging and Biscuit fire. For the month of June 2004, Greenpeace, local activists, ecologists, and volunteers from around the world were gathered at our first Forest Rescue Station in the United States. The Rescue Station highlighted the proposed Kelsey-Whisky timber sale, which threatens over 46,000 acres of roadless area. Hundreds of visitors and volunteers joined us to take nature hikes and participate in workshops on forest defense.

Greenpeace is calling for a moratorium on commercial logging on public lands in the United States, and for increased protection and restoration efforts. The U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and other federal agencies have allowed extensive logging and road building in ancient forests across the USA, destroying forests and key fish habitats and costing taxpayers billions of dollars in net losses and direct subsidies to logging corporations. Timber sales like those in Oregon threaten forests on public lands across the Pacific Northwest and throughout the USA.
