The Offshore Windpark Egmond aan Zee (OWEZ) is the first large wind park that is built in the North Sea in front of the Dutch coast. The construction is outsourced to Bouwcombinatie Egmond (BCE), a cooperation between Ballast Nedam and the Danish wind turbine constructor Vestas. The park contains 36 wind turbines with each a power of 3 megawatt. Together they produce sustainable energy for over 100,000 households. This is comparable to a city like Eindhoven. The wind park is located at 10 to 18 kilometres offshore Egmond aan Zee. The park covers a total area of 27 km2. The new IJmondhaven of IJmuiden is the location where all the components of the wind turbines are collected, assembled, qualified and transported to sea.
