In Rayong province, activists protest against the expansion of a Belgian-owned coal power plant. The ship is met by tug boats and coal plant personnel who fire water cannons as it enters the coal port. Greenpeace is highlighting the hypocrisy of European countries on the issue of climate change, and demands that construction of the new 660 MW GHECO-one coal power plant owned by GLOW Energy be stopped because it will increase Thailand's carbon emissions, which cause climate change. Greenpeace is calling on the Thai government to quit coal and increase energy efficiency. The Quit Coal Tour in Thailand is just part of Greenpeace's global campaign against coal. Coal is the most polluting of all fossil fuels and the largest single source of CO2 in the world. Currently, one-third of all carbon dioxide emissions come from burning coal.
