Shoot: Climate Action at River Ganges India
GP0UB2
Greenpeace volunteers unfurl banners reading "Climate Change is Killing Ganga" whilst hanging from the Howrah Bridge, Kolkata over the River Ganges. The volunteers remained in that position for one hour as a large crowd gathered on top of the bridge to witness the action. Greenpeace is raising an alarm on one of the most serious impacts of Climate Change, the rapid rate of retreat of the Himalayan Glaciers. Parts of these glaciers are receding at nearly double the speed as they were two decades back. This has already adversely impacted the water discharge to rivers which originate from the glaciers and will result in drought in local villages which depend on the glaciers as a water source.
