The yellow banner reads "Klimaschutz Jetzt!" which can loosely be translated as "Protect the Climate Now!". The installation is right next to Vienna's famous emblem, the St. Stephan's Cathedral. In original language:350 Aktion Stephansplatz WienWien, 24. 350 ppm (Teilchen pro Million) CO2 ist - laut jüngsten wissenschaftlichen Ergebnissen - die sichere Obergrenze an CO2 in der Atmosphäre um das Klima stabil zu haltenLocations:Austria-Central Europe-ViennaDate:24 Oct, 2009Credit:© Greenpeace / Rene HuemerMaximum size:1063px X 709pxKeywords:Activists-Banners-Cathedrals-Climate (campaign title)-Climate change-Crowds-Day-Human banner actions-KWCI (GPI)-Large group of people-Outdoors-Public engagement-Urban areasShoot:350.org Climate Action ViennaOn the widespread international day of climate action organised by 350.org, Vienna sets an example as well: more than 200 volunteers and Greenpeace activists gather on the Stephan’s Square and shape the number „350“ with their bodies to encourage the heads of state to fight for a fair and effective climate treaty at the Copenhagen conference in December 2009. This human banner action is one of over 4600 actions that take place simultaneously in over 170 countries around the world. 350.org, which was founded by the author and environmental activist Bill McKibben, is the first big scale global grassroot-campaign against climate change. 350.org focusses on the number 350-as in parts per million, the level scientists have identified as the safe upper limit for CO2 in our atmosphere and demands that the politicians act at the Copenhagen conference to get the level, that is currently at 390 ppm back to under 350 ppm. Greenpeace takes part in the viennese climate action as well.
