Action against Statoil Oil Rig in the Barents Sea

The Greenpeace ship Esperanza arrives on the exact coordinates of Statoil’s planned Apollo drilling site near the nature reserve Bear Island in the Barents Sea. The Esperanza occupies the drill site and attempts to block the arrival of Statoil’s Transocean Spitsbergen oil rig. Greenpeace is campaigning for a ban on offshore drilling in the Arctic, and for the uninhabited area around the North Pole to be declared a global sanctuary.
