An Italian coast guard vessel passes the Prezioso Oil Rig as Greenpeace activists occupy the ‘Prezioso’ offshore oil rig operated by the Italian oil company ENI in the Sicilian Channel. The activists unfurl a 120 meter square banner depicting the Italian Prime Minister, Matteo Renzi, with a satirical message promising “Piu’ Trivelle per Tutti” (More Offshore Drilling For Everybody) and Greenpeace’s demand to “Stop Fossil Go Renewable”. Other banners read "Energy Revolution Now!" and "Renzi Basta Trivelle' (Renzi Stop Drilling").
Greenpeace is protesting against an Italian governmental decree that offers incentives for offshore drilling and asks Prime Minister Renzi to promote ambitious EU renewable energy targets at a meeting on the 23th and 24th of October.
