Activist Builds Climate Rescue Station near Konin

Weeks before the crucial United Nations Climate Conference COP 14 opens in Poznan, Poland, Greenpeace builds the Climate Rescue Station, a four-storey energy self sufficient globe replica erected beside the Jozwin IIB open-cast coal mine near Konin, as a focal point for opposition to the expansion of coal in Poland and the world. The station will contain exhibitions and information showing the impact of coal. One third of CO2 pollution comes from coal, making it the single biggest cause of climate change. Stopping climate change means quitting coal.
Poland uses coal for 93% of its electricity production, more than double the world’s average, and is a major contributor to global warming. Poland is one of the top 20 states for CO2 emissions.
The shoot includes images of the Patnów coal fired power station near Konin and pollution effects in the surrounding area.
