Research has confirmed that South Africans are breathing a toxic mixture of dangerous air pollutants. South Africa has the most polluting cluster of coal-fired power stations in the world. Mpumalanga province is the fourth worst NO2 pollution hotspot in the world. In addition, a new study detailing the world's worst sulphur dioxide (SO2) hotspots, has revealed that the Kriel area in Mpumalanga is the second worst SO2 pollution hotspot in the world.
