Analysis of Plastic Packaging of Tomatoes in Switzerland
Since wholesalers do not provide any information about their plastic and packaging footprints, Greenpeace Switzerland has created transparency with the tomato packaging index. The analysis of the assortments of 24 randomly selected stores shows that Migros packs its tomatoes in significantly more plastic than its competitor Coop. The Swiss retail trade could save 1,000 tonnes of plastic a year on a single variety of vegetable.
