Anti-Coal Network Rally in Bangkok against Coal-Fired Power Plant in Krabi
Save Andaman from Coal, an anti-coal group from southern Thailand, led a three-day protest against the National Energy Policy Committee’s decision to allow the construction of an 870-megawatt coal-fired power plant in Krabi province, south of Thailand. The Thai anti-coal network is calling the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to reject any coal-fired power plant project in the southern province of Krabi.
The protest ended Sunday afternoon when the military government released five of its leaders taken into custody the day before. According to activist leaders, hundreds of people joined the protest. The rally started Friday morning after the government’s energy committee announced it would move forward with the stalled plan to build the coal-fired plant in Krabi.
