Batang Residents Protest against the Coal Power Plant in Central Java
An aerial view of the protest carried out by Batang residents of the UKPWR (Ujungnegoro, Karanggeneng, Ponowareng, Wonokerso, and Roban) community in their rice farm that will be used for the Batang coal-fired power plant project, Central Java. A banner reads "Illegal".
The construction of the mega-plant has been delayed for almost four years due to persistent and strong opposition from villagers living near the site.

Batang Residents Protest against Coal Power Plant in Central Java (Aerials)
On the eve of the deadline for the financing of the Batang coal-fired power plant, local villagers turn up once more to demonstrate against the project. Local people, from the UKPWR Society representing Ujungnegoro, Karanggeneng, Ponowareng, Wonokerso, and Roban, are especially angry at the loss of access to their rice fields because of fencing erected around the power plant.
The consortium behind the plant, PT BPI (Bhimasena Power Indonesia) put up the fencing two weeks ago, denying farmers access to land which has been allocated for the expanded power plant – including land which has not been sold by the farmers.
