Cetacean Sighting Survey in UK
Dead dolphin from the English Channel, UK. Five dead dolphins were spotted in the vicinity of two sets of pair trawlers 20 miles off the coast of Plymouth, by observers onboard the Greenpeace ship MV 'Esperanza'. The dolphins displayed injuries, such as broken beaks and damaged dorsal fins and flippers, that are consistent with being caught and drowned in large fishing nets. A piece of net was found close to the dolphins. After spotting the dolphins at 11.10am, Greenpeace immediately launched rigid inflatable boats to recover their bodies. The dolphins, still bleeding, were brought onboard for examination and appeared to have been killed recently.
