People of Dharnai village in Bihar, India, used to have a facility supplied by the state Government which provided electricity. This infrastructure hasn't been available for the last 33 years and diesel generators have been the only source of electricity. The development of a solar-power micro-grid to electrify the entire village brings new hope for its inhabitants.
Greenpeace India and partners BASIX and CEED have developed a first-of-its kind in India 100 kW solar micro-grid that supplies around-the-clock electricity to more than 2,400 residents, 450 homes, and 50 commercial operations, including two schools and a health care facility. The reliable, affordable and quick-to-install micro-grid in Dharnai provides a model for communities anywhere living without reliable electricity supplies.
