Forest Community Solutions in Indonesia
Greenpeace together with other environmental NGOs Jikalahari and Yayasan Mitra Insani, welcomed the first government permit granted to a forest community, which will protect 4,000 hectares of land on peat forest landscape of the Kampar peninsula, Riau, from deforestation. Deforestation on peatland has been one of the driving factors behind the region’s ‘haze wave’, and whose protection is critical to stopping the forest fires from reoccurring.
