Common Loon in Canadian Boreal Forest
Common loon (Gavia immer).
These diving birds rely on clear water lakes where they can see the fish they prey on. In the spring and summer their eerie call can be heard on lakes across Canada, including throughout the boreal forest. Loss of habitat, contaminated water and flooding have led to a decline in their breeding range.
