It contains forests, plains, savannas and huge amount of natural resources. For centuries, local traditional populations have been living in its fields and plains without destroying the natural landscape, sourcing their livelihood from all its richness. But the agribusiness expansion movement is risking its survival and the availability of natural resources, causing conflicts over land and even water. In original language:Comunidades e cultura do CerradoO Cerrado é diverso! Locations:Brazil-Cerrado-South AmericaDate:11 Jun, 2017Credit:© Marizilda Cruppe / GreenpeaceMaximum size:8688px X 5792pxKeywords:Day-Forests (campaign title)-Forests (topography)-KWCI (GPI)-Local population-Outdoors-Palm trees-Three people-Tropical rainforests-WomenShoot:"Hold the Line" Report Expedition in the Cerrado Ecoregion, Brazil - Photos by M. CruppeThe region between the states of Maranhão, Tocantins, Piauí and Bahia, known as MATOPIBA in Brazil., is considered the showcase of Brazilian agribusiness, with a high productions of soy and corn for export. However, this predatory model has rushed deforestation in the biome’s region, Cerrado, which is one of the most threatened ecoregion in Brazil and extremely important for the supply of aquifers throughout Latin America. The agribusiness expansion puts traditional communities and natural resources at risk.A Greenpeace Brazil study which has produced the report titled "Segure a Linha" (Hold the Line), shows that this sick model of production does not create a balanced wealth, but the opposite.Related Collections:Report: Countdown to Extinction - Edit for Press"Hold the Line" Report Expedition in the Cerrado Biome, Brazil - Communities & Culture (Photos & Video)
