Deep sea creatures - Triplewart Sea Devil

Image of a captive Triplewart Sea Devil (Cryptopsaras couesi), in the Atlantic Ocean close to Cape Verde. There are almost a hundred species of angler fishes of the genus Ceratoiose. The deep sea anglerfish (Cryptopsaras couesi) lives in depths of more than 500m. Pictured is a female, which can be recognized by the body structure and size. Only female Cryptopsaras couesi grow larger than 15 cm, have the sharp teeth and the "fishing rod" to capture other fish.
