Energy Revolution in Southern Thailand
Over one thousand people from communities whose livelihoods and environment could be impacted by proposed dirty energy plans, including coal, nuclear and oil, block the strategic highway of Phetkasem road linking Thailand's southern provinces to Bangkok. Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra is expected to address "energy security" in her policy statement this week. Greenpeace stands in solidarity with the people's movement, calling on the Thai government to have political will and action and lead the country towards an energy revolution by investing in renewable energy and putting in place more aggressive energy efficiency systems.
