It’s one of the most ‘biologically outstanding’ places in the world, according to the World Wildlife Fund, home to a range of species — from wolves and brown bears to golden eagles and Siberian accentors. And it suffers from fire: in 2015 forest fires had extended to 2 million hectares in Pribakalye (regions close to extremely valuable lake Baikal). State forest system can't manage it and local volunteers are motivated to stay at the forefront of the peat, grass and forest fires.
