Fishing vessels that have the right to fish in Mozambican waters are not permitted to have fins that total more than 5% of the weight of sharks onboard. Also, all species of thresher sharks (Family Alopiidae) are prohibited to be brought onboard. Greenpeace is observing fishing activities in the Indian Ocean where poor management has left many stocks over exploited including albacore tuna and many sharks.Locations:Africa-Indian Ocean-Mozambique-Mozambique ChannelDate:13 Sep, 2012Credit:© Paul Hilton / GreenpeaceMaximum size:4992px X 3288pxKeywords:Bycatch-Day-Fisheries-Fishing (Industry)-Illegal-KWCI (GPI)-Law-Longline fishing-Oceans (campaign title)-Outdoors-Overfishing-Shark fins-Sharks-Two peopleShoot:Rainbow Warrior Indian Ocean Fisheries TourThe Greenpeace's ship, Rainbow Warrior, is on an expedition in the Indian Ocean to expose overfishing and to highlight the problems associated with excessive tuna fishing, unsustainable or illegal fishing practices, the lack of law enforcement, and the need for countries to cooperate and ensure that communities benefit from the wealth of their oceans in future. Poor management has left many stocks over exploited including albacore tuna and many sharks. The Rainbow Warrior is sailing in Mozambican waters with fisheries enforcement officials on board in order to carry out joint surveillance and expose cases of illegal fishing.
