The Yellow River is one of the longest and most important, fragile and iconic waterways in China. Greenpeace investigations have revealed an open-pit coal mine undermining the embankment of the Yellow River in Wuhai City, Inner Mongolia China. Massive cluster of coal processing plants are operated at dozens of industrial parks spanning hundreds of miles along the Yellow River. All these projects are highly energy, water and carbon intensive, and discharge huge amounts of waste water and flue gas.Greenpeace calls for an immediate halt of operations at this and other coal industrial projects that threaten the Yellow River, and urges the Chinese authorities to speed up the upgrade to a more reasonable energy mix with more ambitious boosts to the renewable energy sector.
