Hydraulic Fracturing Scenes in Colorado
Weld County in northern Colorado is the site of a concentration of hydraulic fracturing for oil and natural gas. With nearly 18,000 wells, Weld County has more active oil and gas wells than any county in the United States. A geologic formation called the Niobrara Shale, a deep shale rock layer that requires hydraulic fracking to get out the oil and gas, underlies this part of the country.
