Greenpeace Places Stones in North Sea for Fish Paradise

As part of the "Seven Seas" campaign, Greenpeace starts building a "fish paradise" at the Cleaver Bank in the North Sea. As a protest against the lack of strength of the Dutch government to protect the marine life in the North Sea, the organization places a number of giant stones at the sea bottom. These kind of stones are originally found in the area, they are very useful because many plants and small marine animals find a habitat between and upon the stones. The “fish paradise" will help restore nature at the Cleaver Bank after decennia of destruction by bottom trawling. With the Arctic Sunrise, the organization charts the biodiversity of the sea beds, shows the rich variety of the flora and fauna in the area. It is the second time that Greenpeace places stones at the Cleaver Bank. The first time was in 2011, these actions led to a lot of protests from the Dutch Fisheries sector and a verdict of the Ministry of L&V which imposed the organization with a penalty payment. This was destroyed by the Council of State afterwards.
