The stone weighs 1.5 tons. Stones like this are originally found in the North Sea. The aim is to build a sea reserve for the marine life in this area. According to Greenpeace, the Cleaver Bank has the highest biodiversity in the Dutch North Sea and has been seriously damaged by many years of intensive fishing. Locations:Cleaver Bank-Europe-Netherlands-North SeaDate:12 May, 2015Credit:© Greenpeace / Kick StokvisMaximum size:5277px X 3518pxKeywords:Actions and protests-Day-Greenpeace ships-KWCI (GPI)-Marine Reserves (campaign title)-MY Arctic Sunrise-Oceans (campaign title)-Oceans (topography)-Outdoors-Rocks-Seas-WaterShoot:Greenpeace Places Stones in North Sea for Fish ParadiseAs part of the "Seven Seas" campaign, Greenpeace starts building a "fish paradise" at the Cleaver Bank in the North Sea. As a protest against the lack of strength of the Dutch government to protect the marine life in the North Sea, the organization places a number of giant stones at the sea bottom. These kind of stones are originally found in the area, they are very useful because many plants and small marine animals find a habitat between and upon the stones. The “fish paradise" will help restore nature at the Cleaver Bank after decennia of destruction by bottom trawling. With the Arctic Sunrise, the organization charts the biodiversity of the sea beds, shows the rich variety of the flora and fauna in the area. It is the second time that Greenpeace places stones at the Cleaver Bank. The first time was in 2011, these actions led to a lot of protests from the Dutch Fisheries sector and a verdict of the Ministry of L&V which imposed the organization with a penalty payment. This was destroyed by the Council of State afterwards.Related Collections:Greenpeace Places Stones in North Sea for Fish Paradise (Photos & Videos)
