Since 2009, the Shenhua Group's Baorixile open-pit coal mine has been discharging waste water into the grassland. In only three years the discharge water has created a 20-meter long, 50-meter wide, and 1000-meter deep ditch, with the washed out sand covering the grassland downstream.Locations:Asia-China-East Asia-Inner MongoliaDate:25 Jun, 2012Credit:© Lu Guang / GreenpeaceMaximum size:5616px X 3744pxKeywords:Aerial view-Climate (campaign title)-Coal-Coal mines-Coal mining-Day-Destruction-Fields-KWCI (GPI)-Land pollution-Landscapes-Mines-Open-pit mining-Outdoors-Outflow pipes-Waste disposal-WaterShoot:Open-pit Coal Mining in Inner MongoliaImages of extensive open-pit coal mining in Inner Mongolia and its devastating impacts on the grassland used once for cattle and sheep.
