Many decisions on factory farming in the province of Navarre are taken in this city. Jesús has pursued studies in Industrial Engineering. He is a member of an association named Compañía de las 3 Erres (the 3Rs group, coming from Reduce, Recycle and Reuse). With a deep interest in waste management, from a local and global perspective, he worries about the damages that the Valle de Odieta factory farm has provoked. According to Jesús, the waste of the factory farm has deeply affected the environment and the population of the nearby villages. Towards Greenpeace Spain he expressed a string of concerns: “The impacts caused by the transport, excessive use of water, the contamination of aquifers, the growing resistance to the antibiotics: all these are effects that nobody takes into account and it seems that they do not matter.”Locations:Europe-Navarre-Pamplona-SpainDate:20 Feb, 2019Credit:© Greenpeace / Wildlight / Selene MagnoliaMaximum size:2830px X 2123pxKeywords:Activists-Agriculture-Air pollution-Close ups-Dairy farming-Drinking-Factory Farming-Farmers-Hands-Indoors-KWCI (GPI)-Local population-Meat and Dairy (campaign title)-Men-One person-Traditional farming-Victims-WaterShoot:Dairy Factory Farm in SpainThe dairy factory farm operating under the name “Valle de Odieta, S.C.L./Corraliza el Tomillar, S.Coop. and Hibridación Termosolar Navarra, S.L.” is located in the province of Navarre, Spain. It is the biggest dairy farm in the whole rural area of Navarre and one of the biggest in Spain. In the last 50 years there was a huge transformation in livestock production in Spain, from a traditional and extensive production to a very intensive and industrial production. This has a huge environmental impact. The intensive livestock farming has changed the shape of the landscape and the flora in the nearby fields. Green algae is visible on the water effluents from the farm, probably due to the high nutrient content on the manure being disposed. This nutrient pollution is likely to reach the Aragón River.Related Collections:Factory Farms in Europe - Full Selection
