Polar Bear Meets OSPAR Delegates in London
"Paula", the Greenpeace-activist-polar-bear is in London with the Greenpeace OSPAR team to call on the OSPAR Convention delegates, who are meeting in London, to agree on a firm commitment to secure further protection for the OSPAR Arctic region from destructive human activities, such as oil exploration. The head of Delegations are meeting at a Coordination Group, which is the preparatory meeting for the annual OSPAR Commission meeting that will take place at the end of June this year. The Arctic international waters covered by OSPAR include nearly 10% of the area designated as a future Arctic Sanctuary as demanded by Greenpeace and other international civil society groups backed up by nearly seven million citizens worldwide.
