President Anote Tong of Kiribati in the Arctic
1st mate onboard the Greenpeace ship Esperanza goes through a safety round with President Anote Tong of the Pacific Island nation Kiribati and his staff. The President is sailing to the Arctic to learn more about the connection between the melting Arctic glaciers and the sea level rise drowning his country. Sea levels are rising faster in the Central-West Pacific than nearly anywhere else in the world, forcing nations like Kiribati to prepare to be wiped off the map.
President Tong will leave Svalbard to attend the UN Climate Meeting in New York September 23rd.
