Lignite Open Pit Mining Action and Background in Germany
People protest against the catastrophic effects of Lignite (brown coal) open pit mining by forming a human chain in the village of Proschim near Cottbus, Germany. More than 350 activists from across Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic formed a protective circle around the village's centre and its church which are threatened by the diggers. The shoot includes images of lignite mining in the Lusatia region.
