Protest against Arctic Oil at Statoil Commissioned Rig in Norway
Karianne Opgård Andersen of Greenpeace in Norway.
Kayaktivists from Greenpeace in Norway have boarded the oil rig West Hercules in a fjord off the West coast of Norway. Two activists are on the rig, demanding a meeting with the rig captain, while 10 others are on the water displaying hand banners. The rig is contracted by Statoil to drill for oil in the Barents Sea this summer, at several wells that are challenged in the ongoing climate change case against the Norwegian Government for opening up for Arctic oil drilling. Greenpeace demands that Statoil suspends all such drilling until there is a valid verdict. Nature and Youth and Greenpeace appealed the verdict of Oslo District Court on the 5th of February, and the verdict is therefore not enforceable.

Protest against Arctic Oil at Statoil Commissioned Rig in Norway
Greenpeace protest at the Statoil commissioned oil rig West Hercules which will go to the Arctic this summer to drill for oil. Statoil recently changed their name to Equinor, in an attempt to greenwash the oil from their name whilst they continue to explore and drill for new oil.
