Statoil Transocean Spitsbergen Oil Rig Protest in Barents Sea
Greenpeace activists protest Statoil's oil drilling rig in the Barents Sea, sending the Statoil commissioned rig a message to ‘Save The Arctic.' The rig was already positioned to start drilling on the 27th of August despite an ongoing official complaints procedure that would not permit drilling until 18th of September 2014.
Greenpeace is campaigning for a ban on offshore drilling in the Arctic, and for the uninhabited area around the North Pole to be declared a global sanctuary.
