Yet, the unusual amount of rainfall, compounded by the slow movement of the typhoon, sent thousands of people to evacuation centers and took a toll on farming communities living in 29 affected provinces. The Department of Agriculture has estimated damages to local crops and livestock at Php8.6 billion. From the country’s ‘Rice Bowl’ to the ‘Salad Bowl’, Greenpeace Philippines documented Typhoon Lando’s impacts to farmlands and communities who do hard labor by tilling the soil despite many hardships and setbacks in order to provide food for the nation.
