The 6 turbines built on Aeroe provide more power on an annual basis than what the island uses, and the turbines are owned by around 650 local shareholders, operated by local turbines guilds. Two Danish islands, Samsoe and Aeroe, became the first of Denmark's official renewable energy islands.Locations:Denmark-Europe-Northern Europe-ScandinaviaDate:27 May, 2015Credit:© Denis Sinyakov / GreenpeaceMaximum size:5760px X 3840pxKeywords:Beaches-Climate (campaign title)-Clouds-Coastal features-Day-Energy-Energy [R]evolution (campaign title)-Energy efficiency-Fields-KWCI (GPI)-Outdoors-Renewable energy-Seas-Seascapes-Solar energy-Solar power stations-Wind turbinesShoot:Renewable Energy Documentation in DenmarkGreenpeace conducted a documentation on renewable energy in the Danish islands of Samsoe and Aeroe. 100% of the electricity in the Samsoe island is provided by wind turbines, 70% of the heat supply comes from four sustainable district heating plants. Samsoe has an international lead as an energy-efficient research island, from which the Samsoe Energy Academy shares knowledge and experiences with the world. Aeroe renewable energy island, south of Denmark, houses the largest solar heating power station in the world with more than 33000 m2 covered in solar panels.
