Yellow-bellied Sapsucker's Tree in Canadian Boreal Forest
Holes on tree made by yellow-bellied sapsucker (Sphyrapicus varius).
These woodpeckers can be found across Canada during the breeding season, and spend the winter in the U.S. and Mexico. Nesting pairs often return to the same tree year after year, but work together to excavate a new hole each time.
