Greenpeace Hot Air Balloon over Open Cast Mine Hambach 2018 - News Access
Niederaußem: 12. 12. 2018 – Greenpeace activists protest today in a hot-air balloon over the RWE coal-fired power plant Niederaußem for more climate protection and a quick exit from coal. The balloon is imprinted with a globe and has an attached banner (4x7 metres) saying: “Climate crisis Made in Germany”. The coal-fired power plant besides the open cast mine Hambach is one of the dirtiest coal-fired power plants in Germany. Each year it emits round 25 millions of carbon dioxide, 16.500 tons of nitrogen oxides and 442 kilograms of quicksilver. “We need concrete measures now instead of just bluffing and talking on climate conferences”, says Marion Tiemann, Greenpeace spokeswoman. “Only a quick exit from caol can put Germany back on track.”
