Health Care in Appalachia
A tattered American flag hangs from a house in the mining town of Norfolk. Health care is an unaffordable luxury in Norfolk and surrounding McDowell County. Around 75% of people here have little to no health insurance, some have no access at all. McDowell County, one of the poorest counties in the United States, also has some of the highest rates of diabetes, heart disease, obesity, and respiratory problems.
