Protest against Factory Farming in Alt Tellin, Germany
Greenpeace Agriculture Expert Martin Hofstetter, (center) and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's Minister of Agriculture Till Backhaus (right).
Greenpeace activists protest at a factory farm in Alt Tellin. The environmental activists demand that the farm not be rebuilt and that such large farms be banned. A major fire destroyed large parts of the farm at the end of March, also killing approximately 50,000 pigs, including sows and piglets.
Banner reads: "Schluss mit dem Schweinesystem!" (End the Swine System!).
Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's Minister of Agriculture Till Backhaus (SPD), visits the site during the protest and discusses with citizens and environmental organisations plans for the reconstruction of the pig farm.
