Claim for Air Pollution in Bogotá
Greenpeace Colombia demanded the urgent need for the Mayor of Bogotá to ensure the right of citizens to breathe clean air and a healthy environment. Bogotá is among the 92 cities in the world that exceed the parameters of the World Health Organization regarding the exposure of people to air pollution, and is the fourth in Latin America after Santiago, Mexico City and Lima.
In addition, a Greenpeace study of 41 cities revealed the number of preventable deaths from air pollution and estimated their economic costs. In Bogotá, during 2020, air pollution caused the loss of 5,400 lives and had an economic cost of approximately 1,800 million dollars.
