IPCC Report: Press Conference at Holloways Beach, Cairns, Australia
Greenpeace Australia Pacific responds to the stark findings of the latest IPCC Report.
The United Nations’ IPCC warning that climate change has pushed the Great Barrier Reef’s corals to their “adaptation limits” and that further ocean warming could make their survival impossible means the Australian Government must cut emissions much deeper and faster than previously thought.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Working Group II report on Climate Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability makes it especially clear that the Great Barrier Reef has no future unless we exit coal, gas and oil and shift to clean energy at emergency speed. Renewable energy like wind and solar offer the solution to halting further increases in ocean temperature that is causing coral bleaching and harming the marine life that depends on a healthy reef.
