The First Lawsuit for Carbon Reduction in Taiwan
Under the Renewable Energy Development Act, the Taiwan government set the" electricity bulk user regulation," which asks big companies to use renewable energy. After a lengthy campaign, the Ministry of Economic Affairs still published the regulation with minimal demands, only 500 electricity users restricted. Greenpeace East-Asia Taipei office and the Environmental Jurists Association joined four private citizens to file the lawsuit on February 3rd, 2021. There is a need, they say, to urge the government to raise companies' renewable transition percentage and then reduce power emission.
