Russia is Not a Dump - Action in Leningradskaya
Greenpeace Russia activists in a rubber boat near the place of the action.
Greenpeace Russia activists protest against the import of uranium "tails" from Europe to Russia near the Ust-Luga port in the Leningrad region. On a concrete block a few hundred meters from the shore, the activists install a 17-meter banner with the words "Russia is not a dump!"
Under the pretext of recycling, more than 10 thousand tons of uranium "tails" have already been brought to Russia from Urenco's plant in Germany. Although Russia has already accumulated more than 1 million tons of this radioactive and toxic substance.
The vessel "Mikhail Dudin" with another cargo of uranium "tails" is sailing from Amsterdam to Ust-Luga (Leningrad Region), from where they will be sent by train to Novouralsk. Earlier, Rosatom planned to unload hazardous waste directly in St. Petersburg, but thanks to the protests of Greenpeace and other public organizations and thousands of their supporters, it was possible to transfer hazardous unloading outside the city, but unfortunately, it has not been canceled completely.
