Nornikel Must stop Dumping Toxic Waste into Tundra in Russia
The environmental crime was witnessed in the Russian Arctic. The Norilsk Nickel is throwing off waste from the Talnackh enriching factory. It is going to tundra rivers, then to the river Khayerlakch and lake Pyasino – the same lake that was already polluted by the oil product accident in May, when 21,000 tons of diesel fuel was spilled.
Greenpeace activists and journalists arrived at the scene and called Police, Emergency service and Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resources. The Norilsk Nickel stopped dumping wastewater and suspended workers who were responsible for this violation.
Such accidents are an unfortunate reality unless the Russian government takes the green recovery package. The Russian government must take action to prevent Arctic pollution and take active steps to save climate.
