Kayakers Protest against Fossil Gas LNG Terminal in Bratislava
Around 60 activists on kayaks protested against a proposed LNG terminal in the port of Danube river in Bratislava. With a banner saying “Gas fuels climate crisis” they pointed out that any support for fossil gas or any other fossil fuel is in conflict with reducing emissions and fighting back the climate crisis. The kayak protest was supported by a bicycle ride through the center of Bratislava organized by grassroot groups Bike kitchen and Concerned mothers.
With an estimated lifespan of 20 to 40 years, the LNG terminal would tie us to fossil fuels for decades and is incompatible with keeping the global temperature rise below 1.5 ℃. Greenpeace demands that the development of the LNG terminal be stopped and fossil gas phased out by 2035.
