More Trains Less Cars Action in Vienna
Behind the scenes, GP activists setting up a huge train construction.
Transport is already responsible for one-third of all greenhouse gas emissions in Austria. Nevertheless, Austria plans to build up to 118 kilometres of new highways, which will increase CO2 emissions by an additional 375.000 tons per year.
Greenpeace Austria activists installed a 13 metre long train in front of the Austrian Federal Chancellery to call for more trains and less cars. The estimated cost of 5.9 billion euros must be used to strengthen public transport instead of building relics from the fossil fuel past.
