Greening the City (GTC) was a pilot project conducted in Croatia (GP CEE) from mid-November 2020 to July 2021 and supported by GPI. The project was focused on the topic of urban greenery and carried out during the period of important local elections in Zagreb. Three aspects of urban greenery were specifically addressed: climate adaptation potential, importance for urban biodiversity and importance for mental wellbeing of citizens, especially in the context of COVID-crisis. The project team engaged in three main strands of work: political, which included creating pressure at the peak of the election campaign; communications and engagement, focusing mainly on existing and potential new supporters and the media; and supporting local groups and movements.
