Action against Timber Ship in Salerno
Various shots of Greenpeace inflatable boats and police off the coast of Salerno. Greenpeace activists spent more than 70 hours chained to the stern ramp of the Kwanza - a ship carrying timber from the Cameroon Rainforest. They were later arrested by the police and taken away for questioning. The protest, which involved the Rainbow Warrior, began few days earlier when Greenpeace activists climbed onto the Kwanza before it came into port, and boarded the vessel. The protest was against the importation into Italy of timber from ancient forest destruction in some of the last rainforests in Africa from Cameroon. Italy is the number one importer of timber from Cameroon and plays a critical role therefore in fueling the destruction in this rainforest.
